Med rötter i medeltiden / With medieval roots

With the title "With medieval roots" we wanted to collect music that reflects the living conditions of the old peasant society until the breakthrough of industry. In Sweden most of the population lived in the countryside. For most of these people life was a single but long struggle for livelihood - a struggle that naturally came to characterize their culture. As the industry and the economic development became more and more concentrated in the cities, this brought a powerful cultural repression of the countryside. The result was that the old peasant culture was more or less wiped out during the 1800s and 1900s. Old folk music differs markedly from today's music - in that it was a living, active part of people's lives. It worked during work and rest - it helped to express sadness, joy, hate, hope, anger - it lived with and between people. Some of the songs may have sounded like this on the record but we want to emphasize that we have some ambitions to be timely. Instead, the arrangement became a very playful and emotional- not least thanks to imaginative and open players.
